The presentation of the Plan for the improvement of the tourist destination of Baix Empordà through energy transition was given by Raimon Trujillo, tourism councilor of the Baix Empordà county council and Agnès Gasull, sustainability and climate action councilor of the Baix Empordà county council.
Fincas Riart, which has the distinction of Tourism Quality Commitment 2024, was present at the conference which served to highlight the importance and the need to promote actions that help mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the carbon footprint, from the point of view of energy management. The tourism sector is responsible for nearly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, especially from transportation. The energy transition to renewable energies is essential to reduce this impact, but it is also an opportunity to lead the transformation of the tourism sector and the destination to a more sustainable model. And to position the region as a destination committed to the future of the planet. Tourism demand increasingly values sustainability as a criterion for choosing destinations and tourism companies.
Finally, a round table with companies that are already using renewable energies in their tourist establishment served to exemplify the success of betting on these greener energies, while clarifying doubts among the #attendees. The representatives were Lluís Pellicer from Aparthotel Raíces, Josep Maria Pla from Camping Las Medes, Raquel Gonzaga from Casa Santa Elena, Joan Coll from the Cortijos de en Coll, Bárbara Hallé from the hotel restoring Santo Roc and Can Liret Hotel.
